RSPB South Stack - Holyhead Mountain and Country Park

This walk is simply spectacular and takes in many stunning features near Holyhead. It starts off at RSPB South Stack and follows a public footpath through the lovely nature reserve skirting the clifftops. This section is the best for wildlife, inland and also out to sea with chances of seeing gannets, razorbills and guillemots. The path takes you up to the summit of Holyhead Mountain (although it is not really a mountain). The panorama from this relatively low height is absolutely breathtaking, with Holyhead just below and the Snowdonia Mountains along the skyline.

The way continues along the coastal path round the north side of Holyhead Mountain and down along the clifftops almost as far as Holyhead before it takes a straight route to Holyhead Breakwater Country Park, which is a great spot to stop for a little break.

The return to South Stack follows a simple route along country lanes but the views are still great as you look over this part of Anglesey. One stop-off to make on the way back is at the ancient settlement just opposite the car park.
