Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime from Arrochar

Starting at sea level on the shore of Loch Long, the 920-metre climb begins immediately and follows the line of an old cable railway used in the construction of the Loch Sloy hydro scheme. The path is rough and eroded but easily followed for the first 1km as it climbs through the forest. Around 330m the 'railway' ends and the path continues up the rocky south-east ridge of Beinn Narnain.

In places the path becomes indistinct and a couple of easy scrambles are needed eventually to reach the summit plateau at the top of the Spearhead buttress, an amazing viewpoint. Cross the plateau, passing the trig point and descending from the south-west corner, where the path leads initially through rocks and then grass to reach the Bealach a'Mhaim, a wet and boggy area sitting between Beinn Narnain, Beinn Ime and The Cobbler.

A boggy path improves as it climbs the grassy slopes to the summit of Beinn Ime, the highest of the Arrochar peaks. Return to the bealach, then follow an excellent path running below The Cobbler and passing the Narnain Boulders before descending through the forest to the car park.
