This is a lovely rural circular walk which starts alongside the river Weaver, followed alternately by footpaths and short lengths of lane through the countryside; it's a bit hilly but nothing is very steep. This is followed at Barnton by a hidden path down into the valley to the canal; followed by a delightful long walk along one of the most enchanting sections of this exceptional canal. It's grade ll listed bridges are of course part of our industrial archaeology. All of the paths are well used, the route is easy to follow, and the gates and stiles are all in good order. Most of the fields are meadows with only a couple having crops and there were no animals when I passed through. This walk includes instructions for walkers from moored canal and river boats and is a longer version of walk 8364.

The walk is suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled, but boots will be best as there is one short section that is likely to be boggy all year round. There should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. On your route there are no refreshments except at the pub at the start and finish where there are also toilets. There are no picnic tables, but you fill find several bench seats along the canal towpath, unfortunately there are no other facilities. However, if you book in advance, you should be able to get a good meal with a drink at the pub; an excellent finish to a good walk.
