I've long had an interest in military history, since moving to close to Rosyth Dockyard in Fife. I've been researching the sea defences constructed in both world wars to protect the naval base. This is the first of a short series of walks that visit these fascinating (well, for me at least) sites. My research has recently been hugely assisted by the publication of Gordon Barclay's book, 'Defending the Forth'.

This walk takes in a lovely secluded bay, amazing views across the Forth, a distant look at an ancient abbey and an historic church as well.

The walk can be joined to my other walk, 'Defending the Forth 2', for a longer day out.
