A Circuit of Chatsworth House

The route, although relatively short, allows time to explore the grounds and if you wish Chatsworth House, worth a visit.

The walk leaves Baslow alongside the River Derwent, passing the nursery, through the deer-park and past the house itself. The house is magnificent.

Leave the view of the house and walk into Beeley, a typical Dales village. Stop and browse awhile. After Beeley the route takes us up onto the hillside and back into the estate. At the hunting lodge, there are good views over the house and surrounding countryside.

Please take time to explore the two villages, as there is much to see.

This is a lovely walk with plenty of opportunity to see the house and the park and stunning views from the top of the estate. The only small problem we had with the navigation was at waypoint 11 where the stile is there, but hidden in the hedgerow at the top of the field, however if you follow the directions then you will find it. Otherwise this is a really easy to follow route. The only point I would note is if using the car park in Baslow the card machine doesn't work so take plenty of change. Would definitely recommend this walk and will certainly return again.

Thank you for your comment Lee, much appreciated. Regarding Way-point 21, the details contain instructions on how to complete the walk at the turnstile to Baslow village. Thanks again.

It was a fantastic walk. First time I managed to follow the walk from Waypoint 1 to Waypoint 21. Followed closely without getting lost. Since it was the first time i didn't know that Waypoint 21 is not the end... lol. I still need to walk from 21 to 1. There wasn't any problem to get back to Waypoint 1. I love landscape photography. That's certainly a treat for me with lots of fabulous scenery! Of course I took a lot longer than the walk suggested, because there so much breath taking scenery! The change of scenery has huge variety as well as the type of foot walk. Great workout. Finishing with forest walk was cooler breezy and tranquil ! Love it x

Walk is great but the destination waypoint 21 is miles away from waypoint 1 !!!!

Lovely walk, fairly easy for the most part. Instructions are a little vague at times but keep going, the views are worth it. Can definitely recommend the Wheatsheaf in Baslow for excellent food and service.

Our 36kg German Shepherd was a bit too big to squeeze through some of the squeeze stiles between waymarks 10 and 13 and had to be helped through, otherwise an excellent walk. Dogs should be kept on a lead while on the Chatsworth estate. Excellent food at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley - dogs are only allowed in the garden.

A little cracker of a walk - lovely views and lots of interesting features around. Navigation in line with the step-by-step given by the author is straightforward and precise and allows for peace of mind as you know you aren't going to get way off track. Highly recommended.

If you are in the area of Chatsworth, I urge you to complete this walk. The views are just stunning, I used a whole film taking photo after photo, excellent, we'll definetely be back, can't wait to see the views in winter.

16/05/06 David & Angie Steel - A great walk thoroughly recommend. We stayed at the Caravan Club site and the walk passes right by the rear gate entrance.   Will do it again!

This is a wonderful varied walk with fantastic views. We completed it on our recent holiday in the Peak District and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the Chatsworth Estate. We chose the restaurant attached to the Chatsworth Farm Shop at Pilsley for our lunch and would urge you to do the same as the home cooked food was delicious. Be warned though that a trip around the farm shop could leave you with a big hole in your pocket as they sell such wonderful food!
