A Tolpuddle Trio: 1 – Weatherby Castle and the Obelisk

The walk starts, as do the other two, at the Tolpuddle Martyrs' Museum and is to the north of the village using the only two crossings of the A35. It is almost entirely on bridleways with only two stiles on the footpath section to the hill-fort, Weatherby Castle. It is on little-walked ways kept clear by horse riders; if I were to choose a Hardy title to convey the essence of the walk, it would be 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. Views from the summit are good, but the trees mean that you have to make a circuit of the ramparts to enjoy them.
