From the little port-resort of Portpatrick in the Rhins of Galloway, this scenic walk heads south on a moorland byroad and visits the secluded, exclusive seaside hotel at Knockinaam, where refreshments are available, then returns past the ruinous Dunskey Castle in its dramatic clifftop setting. The coastal scenery, together with birdlife and flowers a-plenty, make this a walk to remember.

We did this walk at the end of July 2023 as we were staying in Portpatrick. We had already done walk 825 in the morning (that one turned out to be the better of the two). The first half of the walk is on a very quiet road and not too exciting. The path from the 5* hotel was rather overgrown so this is definitely not a walk to wear shorts. There were some great coastal views and geological features but the heavens opened about two or so miles from the end and we got literally soaked through to our undies in minutes!! A memorable walk!

Did this enjoyable walk on 24th July 2007. The bridge repair near waymark 12 is now complete. David Rawlinson
