This circular walk skirts around the largest part of the reservoir, passing four churches along the route. Excellent views over the reservoir can be seen on certain sections of this walk. Starting at the visitor centre, you cross Layer Causeway to arrive at Great Wigborough. After a few field-paths, tracks and a long stretch of road, you pass through Little Wigborough and Peldon to arrive back along the edge of the reservoir. The next stretch is a long permissive path, staying quite close to the reservoir before arriving at Abberton Church. The route then follows country lanes, footpaths and fields to reach Layer-de-la Haye Church. From here is a long roadside path with excellent views which brings you back to the visitor centre.

I travelled to Colchester today to do this walk and I'm so glad I did. Thoroughly enjoyed it with splendid views. I couldn't fault the directions, so well done to Sid Marks and Walkingworld for uploading this walk.
