The River Bure was once a main arterial link for transport in the Broads but now sees more holiday cruisers than wherries. This route starts off at Acle Bridge in a small lay-by (enough room for about four cars but is rarely full) and follows the riverbank footpath along the Bure. The small reedbeds along the edge of the waterways offer a suitable home for small birds such as the reed warbler and sedge warbler, so keep an eye out for them during the summer months.

About half of this gentle stroll is along the riverbank, with its wide-open views of the river and surrounding farmland. Once you arrive at the pumping station the route turns north and follows a farm track and public footpath along Muck Fleet. This is the main link between the River Bure and Filby Broad a few miles away and is nothing more than a narrow dyke. Upon arrival at the minor road to Stokesby the route simply follows the lane back to Acle Bridge.
