This is such a delightful and easy walk it's almost a long gentle stroll. All of the paths are good and most of them quite wide and follow long lengths of two waterways. There are three bridal gates and one stile, and the route is so well used and signed you won't easily get lost at all. Apart from a short section of farm drive there are no roads included in the route. There's one short meadow to cross - giving excellent views along the valley, but the grass is picnic height and there are no animals. The short path through a small wood has a narrow and winding path and the continuous gentle slope up to the canal from the river has no steep sections at all, (and wheelchair users and buggies can easily by-pass this short section, but users must be able to climb a short flight of steps later). Almost all of the return route is along the canal. This walk includes instructions for canal and river boat users and is an alternative route to walk 3442.
The walk is suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for dogs, but the short path through the wood would be a challenge for buggies. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. On your route there are refreshments at the Bluebell Gardens tea room at the end of the wood; Tel. 01928 713718 to ask if they will be open - or see their website: - www.bluebellcottage.co.uk/ There are picnic tables by Dutton Lock and possibly toilets. There are bench seats scattered along the route, and toilets and good food at the pub at the end. If you book in advance, you should be able to get a good meal with a drink; an excellent finish to a good walk.
