The walk takes us along from where the River Aln meets the sea, so named the village Alnmouth and the port that was built in 1208 for grain shipment. We then head to the neighbouring village of Lesbury to cross the river and walk back down the banks again, before leaving for a detour to Foxton Hall, a very grand golf course for the elite. Back down the coastal path where we meet the Alnmouth Golf Course, the second oldest links course in the country, originally the 'Alnmouth Working Mens' Golf Course. The Commons of Alnmouth are still run by the village 'Burges', to maintain and upkeep the commons.

I have to agree with all the comments from the previous member. We, fortunately, managed to find the correct route straightaway by the cricket club. One of the groundmen hailed us and said we had the correct path. Many people, apparently, head off towards the sewerage farm and they have a bet on how long it will take for them to return. We trecked across the field as suggested in the route, which was poorly marked and ended up walking over rough ground to pick up the path again - so definitely carry along the river further, as suggested. A lovely walk which we thoroughly enjoyed. If anything, I would say that possibly it would be prettier in reverse.

A good and varied walk - fields, golf course, coastline and town. We suggest adding to Waymark 5 instructions '... up the outside of the cricket ground with the hedge to your right ...' At Waymark 8 we suggest: 'Follow the footpath acutely right, along the riverbank, not the surfaced track, keeping ...' At Waymark 9 we suggest replacing this instruction with: 'Keep to path along riverbank. At corner of large arable field turn left until ladder stile is visible on left side. Waymark 10 Turn right to cross centre of field to Waymark 11.' Note that at Waymark 11 the rungs of the ladder stile are broken (June 2014). Use gate to the left.
