Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track, although much of this circular walk is along footpaths which are not often used, the first part of the walk is along well-trodden paths and very pleasant indeed. As you reach the main feature of this walk - the canal towpath, you will see the famous Bunbury staircase locks on your left by the bridge; (Photo above). If you have a walking stick, I suggest you take it as you may meet cows to fend off, and in winter several sections may be quite boggy. There are a couple of fields to walk straight over where careful navigation will be needed. However, most of the many stiles are in good order, and apart from the short steep climb up Tilston Bank, most of the route is fairly flat. The walk includes instructions for moored canal boat users.
The walk is suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be strong trainers or stout shoes, but boots will be best, and essential in winter or after heavy rain; and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. On your route there are no facilities except for a few bench seats along the towpath and refreshments and toilets at the pub at the start and finish. If you book in advance, you should be able to get a parking place and a good meal with a drink; an excellent finish to a good walk.
