An easy walk which includes a section of the Trent & Mersey Canal towpath together with a stretch of a former railway, 'The Salt Line'.
The Salt Line opened in 1852 and supported a thriving industry based on salt. There were numerous brine shafts and salt works in the area. Brine was heated in large open pans to leave salt used in the production of washing soda, glass, soap and detergents. A passenger service also ran daily to take people to Sandbach.
Today the line takes you through farmland and woodland, with streams, pools and rough grassland. There are glades of coppiced willow and hazel, with some areas managed as wild flower meadows.
