Start at the car park in Alstonefield, drop into Milldale and along beautiful Dovedale, cross to Wetton, then walk back across the fields to Alstonefield.

Dovedale can be extremely popular, particularly on summer afternoons, so choose your day carefully! The fossils on the steps after Lover's Leap are very good indeed. The woodland is some of the oldest in England and produces some lovely butterflies, birds and flowers. The Royal Oak at Wetton is home to the World Toe Wrestling Championships. Information of this 'sport' can be seen inside the pub. Milldale is a great place for a picnic. The walk can be started from Dovedale car park as an alternative.

A really lovely walk - with a fantastic set of instructions. Only one (very minor) point. Direction 21 - should that read 'diagonally (ENE)' ?
