From the Lay by on the A6 the route follows the Cromford Canal towards Ambergate. Eventually it turns uphill to pass through a lovely wooded area. Then a ridge walk with great views takes the walker to Crich village centre. We then continue up to the Tram Museum (worth a visit) and the Cromford Stand War memorial. This is the halfway point. From here we are going downhill through old quarries enhanced by the passage of time to produce a dramatic, and scenic backcloth to the path. Then we reach the Cromford Canal to turn left, and make our way back to the walk stating point.
The excellent cafe at the half way point is only open Saturdays and Sundays at the moment but there is some hope that this will be extended in the future.
