Amberley would make a good day excursion from London, maybe with a visit to Arundel later. Starting from Amberley Station there is a walk of a mile or so up a country road to a path at the top of the downs. Those with cars could cut out the road-walk by starting at Waymark 2. We skirt the top of the downs by walking around the southern edge of the hills and on reaching the top, walk back along the ridge and the South Downs Way, with gliders soaring over our heads and fine views both north and south. There's plenty to do at Amberley, including a walk along the River Arun and a visit to the fine outdoor museum. There are good eating places, including the Bridge Inn, which does good pub food.

This is a beautiful walk with spectacular views, we found however that much of the walk has free roaming livestock and as such the dog needed to be on the lead for a good proportion of the time.
