This walk follows the Devonport Leat prior to it ending up in Burrator Reservoir (see Walk 396). We join it as it tumbles down Raddick Hill over the aqueduct and the River Meavy. Leaving the leat to visit the legendary Crazywell Pool, we rejoin it and then walk on into Princetown with its famous prison and informative visitor centre. Dartmoor granite quarries can be seen from the old railway trackbed and also wide-reaching views over Plymouth, the South Hams and into Cornwall.

In reply to Marie Arymar's previous comment - In the old days the way we calculated height gain was to count the contours the walk crossed. Using phones and gps I’m sure we would get different results. Due to walkers being a lot fitter for longer in their lives they may well think the walk could be classed differently

Hi Pete, Firstly may I say that my dad is a regular contributor to this site and I recognise the work and effort that goes into each walk upload. Thank you. We are walking the GR221 in September (Majorca) and we wanted a harder training hike. This looked perfect but, on closer inspection, we could not understand the 1900m high gain. We walked it today and we think there may be an upload error. We walked 10.3 miles, in 3hrs 25 (4hrs 30 with lunch breaks) and we climbed 878 feet in total. The first third was most interesting and we would call it a moderate rating, the remainder of the hike was pretty flat on wide, busy disused rail tracks - we would suggest an easy rating. Saying all of this, we really enjoyed our hike today and thank you for your suggestion. We are just wondering whether two hikes have got mixed up re height gain, severity and length of time required to walk it? Best wishes Marie (Arymar)
