Archidona - Cueva de las Grejas - El Conjuro - Hermitage - Archidona

Archidona Mountain (La Sierra de Archidona) is shaped like the rim of a volcano and from the peaks there are views across the plain to distant landmarks like the Peña Enamorados and Sierra Gibalto and rural views of Granada and Córdoba Provinces. The walk starts at the local restaurant and swimming-pool and rises to a cave filled with grajas, large birds of the raven family and swifts. From the cave there is a very sharp ascent to the Sierra de Archidona, then a descent through old olive groves to a track leading to the other side of the volcano-like lip to further distant views. Next it's up to the peak of El Conjuro (The Spell) and a visual treat of a descent down to the Sanctuary, which has an Arabic entrance gate to match any you will find in the Alhambra. Lastly it's on down through a pine-filled slope to walk through part of the delightful, typically Andalusian old town, back to the pool.
