This is an easy 'town and country' walk from Galloway's 'food town' of Castle Douglas. The route circumvents Carlingwark Loch by taking a minor road south, diverting onto a delightful footpath across an SSSI, passing through the attractive hamlet of Mid Kelton and returning to the lochside park. To finish, the route ascends the length of King Street, the town's main shopping thoroughfare, where many opportunities for refreshment are on offer.

The whole represents an easy circuit of about four-and-a-half miles. To exclude the 'town' element of the walk, park at the northern end of Carlingwark Loch at Waymark 03, to start and finish the three-and-a-half mile circuit from there.
