Ashbourne - Tissington Trail - Thorpe - Dovedale - Mappleton - Ashbourne

From Ashbourne, the southernmost of the Peak District towns, this walk shows the rich variety of walking in the White Peak. It follows part of the Tissington Trail, passes through the quiet villages of Mappleton and Thorpe, down Lin Dale and part of Dove Dale with its famous stepping-stones across the river and also there is countryside walking along the banks of the River Dove. This is a walk of variety for all to enjoy.

We enjoyed this walk today and found the instructions clear enough that managed to follow without any mistakes. Just to note - the path between 9 and 10 headed through a field full of cows and their calves which was a bit unnerving. Glad we don’t have a dog! There has been a lot of rain recently and it was incredibly muddy in this section. Thick mud into which our boots completely sank and slippery too. My husband slipped over! It might be better to pick another walk when there has been particularly wet weather.
