Leaving the ancient market town of Ashburton, we cross open fields with grand views over the lush countryside while following the River Ashburn with its wooded banks. After crossing a lane and another open field, we enter woodland and are soon in a beautiful oak-wood with the river running alongside our path for almost a kilometre, before we leave it and climb uphill to see more vistas over the countryside and views of Dartmoor in the distance. Joining quiet country lanes for a scenic kilometre, we return through fields to Ashburton.

Nice little walk on a sunny day. My only "criticisms" would be: a) On step 9, for clarity could add that the farm track uphill is signposted "Owlacombe Cross" b) Also on step 9, if you do this walk mid-August then the "good views to your left" are somewhat restricted by tall hedgerows! c) Steps 11 & 12, not sure about the distances (300m, 600m, 400m) - The 300m seemed very short compared to the other distances.
