The walk combines one of the most attractive Peak villages with one of its outstanding views, one of its loveliest river stretches and a beautiful wood. I have done this walk a number of times and it remains among my favourites - I can't praise it too much. I have only to add that pubs, cafes and toilets are conveniently situated along the route and the odd steep climb fades into the background when I think back on it.

Did this walk on May 26th - a dry clear day.
It was generally easy with gradual elevations only until later on in the walk after crossing the A6 there is a fairly steep climb and the stream mentioned in 11 was flowing briskly after recent rain. This added a touch of adventure as we needed to plunge our feet into some water heading upstream, with no clear view of the path initially. A lovely varied walk only slightly marred by traffic noise from the A6 at times. Ashford is also a lovely village to end on with places to eat and drink.

Did this walk at the end of June 2020, on one of the hottest days of the year. Sadly pubs and cafes are still not open, but lots of people having picnics along the river. An excellent walk, especially when hot, as shade from trees and paddling in the river. Ashford is beautiful, very picturesque as are the views as you leave Ashford and head for monsal head. Can highly recommend.

Exceptional! The views were fantastic. The last leg in the woodland saw the wild garlic in bloom which was like a carpet of snow.

Excellent walk. Our not very agile German Shepherd managed to negotiate all the stiles with the exception of one very narrow squeeze stile after waymark 6. We were able to open the adjoining gate in this instance so all was well. Great food at the Stables Bar in the Monsal Head Hotel and dogs are allowed inside.

This walk is ideal, can not be faulted. I strongly recommend it, very few stiles and mostly on good paths.
