This route starts at a car park for a tram stop in Ashton. It drops down to the Ashton Canal along urban roads. The canal is followed for approx 4.3 kilometres to reach a marina just off the canal at Droylsden. After a short section around the marina the route crosses a main road to reach two footpaths which are followed alongside a residential area before following a path between some fields to reach a rural road. This is followed through a local nature reserve passing a car park for a tram stop and along the rural road, which is divided by a motorway crossed by a road, to reach the start point. The route along the canal shows a mixture of architectural styles and includes a low bridge at one point. This section is popular with cyclists and walkers.
