An excellent circular river walk featuring an old length of the river Weaver towpath and also taking you alongside lot of woodland, although only one section of the walk actually takes you through part of one. Although not marked on the map as a public footpath, the towpath is well used but it's not as busy as other more popular routes, so if you want to avoid other walkers this should be an excellent walk for you. The paths are okay for year-round walking, but you can expect to come across a few quite muddy bits in winter or after a lot of heavy rain. The photo was taken alongside Blackamoor Wood, looking over the marsh to the distant riverbank. There are no fields you walk directly across, and you are unlikely to meet any farm animals. A section near the end includes a rarely used footpath with stiles in poor condition, but in the main you will find all the others in good order. For a shorter walk you can miss the aforementioned difficult paths and reduce the walk to 3.5 miles. The walk includes instructions for walkers from moored river boats.
It is probably suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be strong trainers or stout shoes, but boots will be best, especially in winter or after heavy rain, and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. Except for a bench seat at the start and finish, on your route there are no refreshments, picnic tables or any other facilities.
