A fairly flat walk along the ancient lanes and through the fields around Aycliffe Village in south-west Durham. The route crosses and recrosses both the A1(M) motorway and the East Coast Railway line.
Leaving Aycliffe Village the route passes the lovely old church of St Andrew's before entering a pleasant lane that leads you briefly through the industrial estate on the outskirts of Newton Aycliffe that includes the smart new Hitachi Train Factory. The walk then visits a series of open fields and eventually emerges onto a quiet surfaced lane that leads to the village of Coatham Mundeville. From here the walk passes Hall Garth Hotel on the way to the village of Brafferton. The remainder of the walk travels almost entirely along a series of pleasant and picturesque, enclosed ancient lanes to return to Aycliffe Village.
