A flat walk along the ancient lanes and through the fields around Aycliffe Village in south-west Durham. The route crosses and recrosses the A1(M) and East Coast railway line and is best tackled during the summer months when the lanes and fields are less muddy.

Leaving Aycliffe Village, the route passes the lovely old church of St Andrew's before entering a pleasant lane that leads you briefly through the industrial estate on the outskirts of Newton Aycliffe. The walk then follows another long, enclosed lane running alongside a railway line that borders the newly built prestigious Hitachi Train Plant. The lane leads to a series of open fields that eventually emerge onto a quiet surfaced road to intersect Coatham Mundeville. From here the walk skirts Hall Garth Hotel, then passes through the no-through-road village of Brafferton. The remainder of the walk travels almost entirely along a series of pleasant and picturesque enclosed lanes to return to Aycliffe Village.
