Back Bay - Monreith - Clachan of Myrton - Blairbuy - Back Bay

There is great variety on this pleasing walk embracing beach and cave, woodland, lochs, moorland, tracks and green lanes. The walk visits a seaside village, several farms, Maxwell's Otter and the ruinous Kirkmaiden Church. There are also two optional short detours to the Wren's Egg and Drumtrodden standing stones.

Please note that there are no refreshments available on this walk, but just up the road from Monreith at 375402 is the admirable Monreith Wildlife Park (01988-700217), which has a cafe offering drinks and snacks. A visit to see the animals after your walk is highly recommended.

Other walks starting and ending at Back Bay are 1817 and 4874.

Information for Dog Owners: subject always to the normal precautions to be observed by dog-owners when walking in sheep country, this walk is considered suitable for biddable dogs.
