The Badenoch Way is 16km in length, from just south of Aviemore to Ruthven, near Kingussie. This is the first half of it, from Dalraddy Caravan Site to Farleiter Crag, following the course of the River Spey, passing through native pine and birch woodlands where deer, red squirrels and ospreys may be seen and offering fine views of the Rivers Spey and Feshie, Loch Insh and the Monadhliath Mountains. It passes through the village of Kincraig and the grounds of Insh Church, listed as a parish church since 1190, before entering the Watersports Centre on Loch Insh where they offer many sports, a shop and a restaurant.
We have added a mile or so to the walk to allow you to enjoy the Uath Lochans (see Walk 665) and if you feel energetic, Farleiter Crag (Walk 1507). There are many picnic spots en route and refreshments are available in Kincraig and at the Watersports Centre. This is a fine family walk; boots are recommended and your dog is welcome.
