This is the ideal way to walk off (or work up an appetite for) a Bakewell Pudding, or a meal in one of the many fine eateries in Bakewell.

The walk starts with a kilometre along a quiet lane, before picking up the Monsal Trail - a disused railway. The return is via a bridle path, which can be muddy. The walking is mostly very easy, but the descent into Bakewell is quite steep. The final stage is a little known, but very pretty path beside a stream in Bakewell itself.

Bakewell is a busy little place which is well geared up for walkers. You will not be disappointed if you finish your walk with a stroll around the town.

Great walk for dogs as there are no stiles, though they need to be kept under control on the Monsal Trail as there are lots of cyclists.

Very good walk. Added to a good day we had in Bakewell. Allan Wright.

The Monsal Trail is a must if you visit Bakewell and this walk starts at one end. When we reached waymark 6 we realised we had already done most of the return route (in reverse) on walk 2460 the previous day so we carried straight on and followed the trail to Monsal Head which is a lovely place to spend a bit of time. The views are fantastic and it has a pub, cafe, ice cream van and craft shop. There are various return options but we caught the bus!!
