Carn a Ghille Chearr ('Hill of the Unfortunate Boy') lies at the north end of the Hills of Cromdale and is categorised as a Graham (one of two on this ridge – see Walk 5117 for the other). It is 710 metres high. This route accesses the hill from a small riverside car park at Balcorrach in Strath Avon. The hill offers panoramic views to bigger ranges around it, notably the Ladder Hills and the Cairngorms and the possibility of a longer ridge walk to link with Walk 5117. Some sections of the walk are on rough and boggy ground rather than obvious paths, but should present no difficulties in good visibility, although map and compass work may be necessary if the cloud is down.
