Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track. This circular walk is along footpaths which are not often used but quite easy to follow. There are no spectacular views or grotty spots, and the herd of highland cattle was a surprise. There are only short distances along lanes as most of the route is along footpaths, and the return route is a long length of canal towpath. If you want to get away from it all this will be a good walk as you are unlikely to meet any other walkers, but as the path will take you through two house gardens you may find the residents happy to chat. The stiles are in good order but very slippery when wet, and the long bridge over the brook was almost new. There are two diversions which make the route easier, and they are quite short. This walk includes instructions for moored canal boat walkers.

The walk is probably suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled and stout, but if there has recently been heavy rain the paths could be muddy with numerous puddles so boots would be best. There should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts but taking some small secateurs could be useful.

Except for the pub at the start and finish, on your route there are few facilities, apart from a scattering of bench seats along the canal towpath. But if you book in advance, you should be able to get a good meal with a drink at the pub; an excellent finish to a good walk.
