Although not often used, all of the footpaths and tracks on this circular walk are in good condition and the level route is easy to follow. As the scenery is interesting but not spectacular the walk is best done in spring or summer when the trees are in leaf. It's mainly a canal walk featuring the flight of locks alongside the Hurleston reservoir. Most of the fields contain crops so you won't see many animals. There are a few stiles and kissing gates towards the end of the walk and although they are all in good order, they are not dog friendly. This walk includes instructions for walkers from moored canal boats.
The walk is probably most suitable for teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for small dogs that can be lifted over the occasional stile, the walk is also possible for buggies as the section over stiles can be avoided. It will be a bumpy challenge but not impossible for wheelchairs, although you will need a small team of helpers. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled such as stout trainers, although if there has recently been heavy rain the tracks will be muddy with numerous puddles so boots would then be recommended. There should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. On your route there are no refreshments, but there are picnic tables by the locks (see photo on the right), and bench seats along the towpath. There are toilets in the pub at the start and finish of the walk, and if you book in advance, you should be able to get a good meal with a drink; an excellent finish to a good walk.
