This circular walk from Barley Visitors' Centre winds its way Westward up Ogden Clough skirting the two reservoirs before turning up Boar Clough onto Barley Moor and finally the Beacon. As the land falls away on all sides the views around belie its modest height. After a short exploration of the northern end you leave the summit via the steep, but mainly stepped, descent to Pendle House. Here you cross Barley Lane and work your way back to the car park between yet another two reservoirs (it rains a lot in the Pennines!)

Walked November 2021. An enjoyable walk following the well trodden Pendle Way for most of the outbound route - best done on a clear day to get the most from the views at the summit. Walk is well described although some of the routes leading out of and back into Barley, described as tracks, are now tarmac service roads for the reservoirs. NAVIGATION: at the time of walking there was extensive repair work taking place to the Upper Ogden reservoir dam so the footpath between WP2 and WP3 was closed. At the closure point there is a small gate on the right leading to a short, steep field path leading to an old farm track (marked on the OS map). Take the farm track, in the direction of WP3 and this leads back down to the footpath just before WP3. NAVIGATION: After crossing the stream to reach WP4 the Pendle Way, which turns and follows the steep stoney path northwards, is marked with a "Pendle Way" tombstone shaped sign depicting a bird of prey. The remainder of the walk to the summit is along clearly defined tracks often with stone cairns marking the route. MOBILE PHONE: The mobile phone signals in and around Barley are very poor so download any directions/maps/GPS data before you arrive! CAR PARKING: the main car park now costs £3 for all day parking and benefits the local parish council. Payment by cash, card or on-line. There is a small cafe in the car park along with toilets.

A great walk with stunning views from WM6 onwards.

This is a good walk, but quite easy to get lost at times. We missed Waymark 4 and ended up trekking over the brekken to get back on track. We all enjoyed this walk though.
