The route is a mixture of roads and path-walking. Leaving High Barnet, you pass the museum and almshouses dated 1679 to reach Ravenscroft Park, opened in 1883 with two ponds; today there are none. Next you pass the Whalebone Archway erected about 1875, before reaching a bridleway to Arkley, in front of the historic Three Elms Farm dating from the 16th Century. In Arkley you walk along Rowley Lane, take a path to pass Arkley Windmill, dating from about 1830, then it's on to Barnet Gate and an inn. Next you descend Barnet Road to Hyver Hall and follow a path across the fields to the Dollis Brook Green Walk, then it is back to Barnet.
It is altogether a fascinating walk.
