This circular walk leads you through some beautiful scenery in amongst the Cheviots. Although there are no huge hills, the outward leg of the route involves a fairly sustained uphill climb that takes you to the top of Middle Hill (~400m). During the autumn months, the golden colours of the ferns and trees lends a warmth to the view on even the chilliest of days, as can be seen in the general picture here. Although mostly on hard-packed gravel bridleway, parts of the walk feature muddy and grassy sections, so suitable footwear is essential.
Another point to note is that the walk takes you well within earshot of a MoD firing range, so this is maybe not the route for jumpy dogs! There are gates and cattle grids at every fence crossing, so combined with the fact that the route is entirely on bridleway, this would also make for a good short mountain bike route.
There are no facilities whatsoever around this route, the nearest being about six miles along the road at Alwinton, where there is a pub and public toilets.
