The Quay in Beccles is a lovely start to a walk along the River Waveney. The open grassy field is great for dog-owners and the playground is great for children. There is an information centre and tea room just by The Quay which sells ice cream and snacks and is passed on the route.
After heading away from the hustle and bustle of The Quay the route follows a nice section of the River Waveney. There is plenty of wildlife to look out for, including marsh harriers soaring overhead. The route then heads up a small hill to Hill Farm, which sits about 60ft above the marshes and can be seen from most of the riverbank footpath. The views back down to the Waveney are lovely and stretch far into the distance. The route passes a very unusual barn with beautiful arched window facing Gillingham Hall, which dates from the 18th or early 19th Century.
The return route to Beccles follows The dam back over Beccles Old Bridge and to The Quay.
