From Belper the route is along the River Derwent for about half a mile. It then ascends the hillside to give brilliant views over towards Belper and the river. Reaching the village of Farnah Green, we pass along a very old village pathway with interesting houses along its path. Then we pass through a long but narrow wooded area with a unique hollow tree with 'seating arrangement' at the side of the path. The path then climbs up to Handley Wood where almost Lake District lowland scenery will be seen whilst passing through the trees. Then a steep ascent through the last portion of the wood sees us up high with glorious panoramic views over the surrounding countrside. Lastly there is a gradual descent back to Belper.

Point 4/5 - the gate way is flooded and unless you have the balance of Kung Fu Panda or wellies that are at least 18 inches high. Impassable at the moment. Don't try the whole the hedge either it barbed wired on all access points after the hole. 19/01/20

Just completed, excellent and very easy walk, some steep climbs but this is Derbyshire, it's how it is. My partner used Viewranger along with my GPS and she loves the wake up calls that come through when approaching waypoints. Very good!!

We completed the walk 9 March 2012. A great walk, made more pleasant by a sunny and warm day. The views were great on such a clear day.

I did this walk on 04/06/09. I really enjoyed this walk. It had everything, - fantastic scenery, hills & valleys, woods, birds, flowers and very interesting jitty. At point 21, - walk through the wood is really enchanting. I did this in late afternoon and wood was ablaze with beautiful bird songs, together with gurgling stream. There is only one thing I would add to improve the walk. It took me ages to find the car park. Can the author, and authors of all walks please tell us how to find the car park. Small amendment at point 19. It should not say "walk through the village" but say "Walk out of the village". Also the seat on the grassy bank is on left of the gate. Finally, I really liked the author's descriptions and surprises, and humour.
