A half-day walk up a hill which isn't a stunner in itself, but great views are promised over Sutherland and Assynt's collection of astonishing, characterful mountains.
The weather forecast on this day in early September 2011 was 'brighter, later'. So I decided the cloudburst would end eventually and I dozed in the car for a good while until the skies did clear; whereupon I set off uphill in search of the good views this hill promised. Half an hour later the torrential rain returned - hence very limited views in my photos.
However, on a good day, I'd still recommend this walk because Ben Hee is well-positioned for panoramas of many hills I can vouch for as great walks. Round the clock should be Ben Hope (the most northerly Munro), Ben Loyal, Ben Klibreck, Ben Leoid, Ben More Assynt and Conival, Quinag to Ben Stack, Arkle and Foinaven, Cranstackie - and many, many more.
The secondary top at 851m (ref NC 434 350) could be added, from which the summit (probably) looks more dramatic. For the other half-day, try Walk 6204, Ben Stack, just a few miles along the same road.
