Starting on the edge of suburbia, at Bents Green in the south-west of the city of Sheffield, the walk proceeds fairly gently uphill to reach a high point above Ringinglow Village, with views into Derbyshire in one direction and over Stannington, Lodge Moor, Redmires and over the city - on clear enough days - to Lincolnshire and Humberside in another.

From this high point the walk descends and skirts the edge of the district of Fulwood, with opportunities to add to the overall length by taking detours towards Lodge Moor, Redmires, Wyming Brook (nature reserve) and Rivelin. Passing Fulwood, the walk drops into the Porter Valley and passes through woodlands and parks towards the Sharrowvale area of Sheffield.

This walk crosses and / or briefly shares small sections with, Walks 3848 (Ringinglow - Limb Valley - Higger Tor - Ringinglow), 3884 (Lodge Moor - Redmires - Stanage Burbage - Grindleford) and 6614 (The Woodlands and Parks of South-West Sheffield).
