The start of the walk is on the southern outskirts of Bethesda, where a lane quickly gives way to tracks and then open ground. A well-engineered track descends slowly to valley level and the A5 is crossed to the old road. Although this is not as pleasant to walk on as in the days when it was just a gravel track, it offers an easy climb up to Ogwen Cottage and the falls, where there are refreshments and toilets as well as a bus service back.
