This is a really easy walk that takes in a bit of open countryside, the River Dove and some splendid geological features, as well as a very fine pub. We can't get away from the fact it is about six miles, but as the pub is about halfway round, it's really only a three-mile walk with rest in the middle and the walk back is pretty well level, as it uses the old railway track called the Tissington Trail.
The height gain of 150m does sound an awful lot of puff needed, but in fact it is a short, steep descent on a well-worn footpath and then along the by the river Dove before a gentle walk back up through some lovely scenery. Best not try it in reverse.
