This walk is quite demanding, as anyone walking in the Wye Valley will know. The main climbing is done early and the height gained results in some lovely views. The return route uses Slade Bottom, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The stream is rich in limestone resulting in the formation of tufa, a form of rock on the endangered species list. The valley is also exceptionally lovely. There is one more climb before walking down through Bigsweir Woods again.
