THIS IS A STRENUOUS WALK AND REQUIRES GOOD MAP AND COMPASS SKILLS.
From the car park at Birchen Clough, follow waymarked paths to Doctor's Gate, join the Pennine Way and then walk into Grains in the Water to Alport Dale. The Castles are a spectacular sight. Follow tracks and paths back to the car park.

Bleaklow may have an austere reputation, but the determined explorer who enters Alport Dale will have an advantage over the Pennine Way and the Derwent watershed, for this is Bleaklow's prized possession. An awe-inspiring crag-shattered landslip, small hamlet and a deep valley accessed from a wild secluded bowl in the hills at Grains in the Water, are the rewards of this walk.

20.11.06 - Julie Graham: This walk is a great one, unfortunatley we didn't manage to get to Alport Castles due to me fracturing my ankle in Alport Dale. Going to try again in the future but the dale is absolutley stunning.
