Starting at the Bleakholt Animal rescue, you begin a 4km climb on road, track then path, on the Rossendale Way, up to Scout Moor. Waugh's Well is one of my favourite lunch stops. The views across the reservoir, down to the Plunge Valley then over to Peel Tower and Holcombe Moor, are not to be missed! It is plain to see where Edwin Waugh got his inspiration from. You then drop down to Dearden Clough and the Plunge Valley, with waterfalls, picnic area, old mills, mill-race and abundant wildlife, a place to spend some time to explore. The Fisherman's Rest, just off Riding Head Lane, will provide you with some of the finest food in the area. Trout is a speciality, freshly caught from its own pools!

When going from waymark 2 to 3 it is possible to miss waymark 3. This is not a problem, just continue along A680 to Fecit Farm (on left hand side of road). Follow the footpath up to the farm where it is signposted to the right. Passing through the gate you are now back on track between waymarks 4 and 5.
