The walk goes north along the east bank of the Wharfe before crossing by the Aqueduct Bridge and passing The Strid on the return to the village. There are three lengthy but easy climbs as this route does not always use the riverside paths shown on the map. Indeed, the paths on the map are not accurate, having been rebuilt by the estate. Underfoot the going is easy as, except for one field, it is on well-maintained gravelled paths without stiles. It passes all the well-known features like the stepping-stones, the abbey remains and the Cavendish Pavilion and Memorial with lovely river views and an abundance of flowers and birds.
