Bothamsall - Robin Hood's Cave - Walesby - Milton - Bothamsall

This circular walk begins and ends in a lovely Nottinghamshire village containing an interesting old motte. The villages of Bothamsall, Milton and West Markham each have unique churches to admire and food can be obtained at a public house halfway round. (There is also an old-fashioned quality butchers in Milton which sells a wide range of things).

The focus of the walk is however the Rivers Maun and Meden, which are clear and fast-flowing rivers each having its own ecosystem. The walk goes through mainly arable land, with wooded areas in places, especially at the beginning and is easy going, although described as moderate due to its length.

If looking at the map, don't let the mine put you off, as it is now closed and does not intrude in the local landscape. Overall, this is a jolly good ramble.

With regard to the comments, all I can say is that the road is marked on the map as another road, and there were no indications about private ownership when I last walked the route. The Robin Hood way is also marked off this unmetaled road, which suggested that it is a well used route - maybe the owners are getting active. With regard to the crops, that is possibly correct, but there is a designated path over that route.

Towards the end of the walk at the Horsechestnut and chestnut trees you are on a private road which the owners are very protective about. The footpaths are obstructed part way through the walk by crops (July 04) Milton area. The walk has a lot more road walking than the instructions suggest. There are no issues on the walk to stop any member of the family enjoying it. One stile requires dog to jump 4 ft to get over otherwise no issues for dogs.
