East Butterwick lies on the banks of the river Trent two miles south of Keadby bridge. Formerly a thriving village with a variety of shops, a school, a chapel and church along with two pubs catering to a predominantly agricultural community. The village also has a 150 acre area of land known as the Hale common which is an area of special interest. Within this there is both grazing and wetland supporting a diverse variety of wild life. This is not a commonly used walk, but offers some good long distance views over towards the axholme vally and the Trent and plently of wildfowl to view along Butterwick Common on the return leg. The Trent bank is a good place to stop, as a stop over for your pack up/drink stop or alternatively checkout "www.doggunpub.com" for opening times and food availability.
