This is an easy linear walk following Bottesford Beck, which runs for a two-mile stretch from Messingham Road to Ashbyville, with the opportuninty to visit the Norman Church of St Peter's and a Templar Bath. Bottesford is an Anglo–Saxon village to the south of Scunthorpe, named as 'Bulesforde' in the Domesday Book, which means 'The Ford by the House'. Bottesford is steeped in archaeology from the Romans onwards. This walk starts from the newly built visitor centre on Messingham Road which provides free parking for a three-hour period. The visitor centre has limited opening hours, typically 10am to 3pm, where refreshments can be purchased and it also has toilet facilities.
