The walk takes us from the little fishing village of Boulmer, along the coastal path and into the tranquil 'cushat' wood of the Howick Estate. We follow the 'Long Walk' through the wood and pass the entrance to Howick Hall (which could be visited en route). From here we walk down to the sea and back along the coastal path, past the wood entrance, to rejoin our outwood track back to Boulmer.

NOTE The "Long Walk" through Howick Hall estate is now closed. To access it you have to pay a fee which includes entrance to all the gardens on the estate. Access only available after 12 Noon at present (April 2006).

We've just spent several days staying in nearby Warkworth (which is a lovely place) and this is one of the WW walks we did while we were there. When first arriving in Boulmer, it is immediately apparent that this is most definitely a working village with boats tractors and lobster pots all along the road and between the houses as you walk the first stretch of the route. The coastal section of this walk (which is a substantial part) is just lovely. Amazing beaches and breathtaking views, especially on a bright and sunny October day. We were really looking forward to the Howick Hall section of the walk but the turnstile was firmly closed. No idea if this was because of the time of year or time of day (early afternoon). What we did instead was backtracked to the bridge and then walked the footpath between points 6 and 9 adjacent to the coastal path. We then turned west down the road towards Howick Hall but turned into the village of Howick (teeny weeny but perfectly formed) before we got there and then walked around the block to point 10, rejoining the walk from there. The only 'problem' we had with the walk was the lack of facilities en route if you don't go to Howick Hall... It is a very popular walk for walkers (with and without dogs) and cyclists and it is easy to see why! Look out for the sculptures set on the wall to your left as you walk between 3 and 4.
