On this walk you visit St Peter's Chapel, an isolated monastic building dating back to the 7th century, Othona Roman Fort and Christian Retreat, and the mouth of the River Blackwater where it enters the North Sea.

After walking the bank of the river and passing Bradwell Nuclear Power Station, you strike inland at the small sailing community of Bradwell Waterside to cross fields, then use a quiet lane to return to your start point.

Despite the proximity of the power station the views throughout this walk are excellent. This is a remote area and birdlife and wildlife abound. The walk is worth doing twice at least - once in the direction indicated, then in the reverse direction to savour the views in both directions.

Off Road Ramblers. Note at point 2 turn left past church to concrete steps, these may be overgrown, same applies to walk 857. There is a mud slope next to it. Follow sign post left into Othona Christian Community. This is a great walk, nice pub at point 4. If still wanting more on returning to your car, do walk 857. Total of 13 miles for both walks. We did 857 first which we think was the correct order for doing both walks.
